So my curiosity finally got the better of me and although the Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer from Hello FAB wasn’t really suited to me, I couldn’t not test the Superfruit Color Correcting Cushion.
I did wait until the product had landed in store so I could go and play with it instead of blindly ordering online. I was actually quite impressed with the light and fresh texture and luminous but non-shiny finish. So here I am, back with another review from the Hello FAB line.
The cushion concept isn’t new as several other brands have launched foundations in this format. The format originated in Korea several years ago and has since gone global. The Superfruit Color Correcting Cushion is made in Korea so I had no doubt that there would be zero issues with the format, packaging, sponge applicator etc. Here were my first impressions:
- Light weight texture and fresh/cooling sensation when applied
- I like the unique sponge applicator, it’s less porous so doesn’t soak up the product and make a big mess
- The colour swirl is interesting looking but I question the function of this
- Provides a nice luminosity to the skin without looking shimmery
- Not enough coverage to wear alone
The product’s light weight texture feels lovely on the skin and it provides a cooling sensation. The colour swirl is interesting but I’m not convinced this actually does anything because once you transfer the product to the sponge and apply to the skin, all of the colours mix together. I wouldn’t say this actually corrects any colour at all but it does make for a nice subtle face illuminator. It adds a beautiful non-shimmery glow to the skin and is great beneath a light foundation or on a day when your skin is looking great and needs minimal help. However there is no coverage so if you are looking for even a tinted moisturizer type base, this won’t provide that. Overall it’s a nice product to use but given that it doesn’t colour correct or provide coverage, I don’t feel as though I necessarily need this. I was hoping that the cushion could replace my foundation or tinted moisturizer on days when I’m taking Poppy to the pool or just grabbing a coffee. Unfortunately it can’t replace another product and I seem to be getting through this quite quickly so at $45, it might not be that affordable to add into an already pricey beauty routine. I really like the packaging and format, if it provided even a slight coverage then I’d probably use it more often….but I suppose then it would be similar to a lot of cushion foundations already on the market and would lose its point of differentiation. What would be more appealing is if FAB offered cushion refills at a lower cost. It seems like a lot of the price would come from the nice quality packaging and it’s definitely refillable as you can see from the picture below. There would be less waste and people might be more incentivized to repurchase.
Similar to the Coconut Smoothie Priming Moisturizer, I would recommend this for younger skin that doesn’t need coverage. It would also be ideal for people on-the-go who already have nice skin as the format is great to keep in your purse, gym bag or back pack plus the packaging is cute!
